I didn't fully understand it when I was a child but the music used in the Russian comedy show Yeralash always fascinates me when I hear it. It's supposed to be goofy but instead it’s full of eerie sounds that make the soundtrack almost uncanny. Is something bad supposed to happen? Why are they laughing then?

an era of lush goes further and exploits the secret message of the music from some of the early episodes of the show. The music, based on deformed samples from Yeralash, is stressful and tiresomely repetitive. It’s not scary but it’s anxious. The main loop could be seen as a metaphor for an obsessive thought – a thought about loss, mistrust and doubt (remember that this is always about yourself and never anybody else). The other sounds try to take listener somewhere else, but the album doesn't go anywhere (and so to split it into ‘movements’ was an ironic gesture). The ending only closes the circle.

So, is there no way to get out of it? You shouldn’t be pessimistic about it, there’s always hope. What was hard in the beginning gets smoother towards the end. The most beautiful thoughts are always beside the darkest.

Я не понимал этого до конца, когда был ребенком, но музыка из «Ералаша» всегда восхищала меня. Всегда, когда я ее слышал. Создатели думали, что она будет дурашливой, но на деле в ней можно было найти кучу жутких звуков, которые делали сопровождение почти зловещим. Как будто должно случиться что-то плохое. Но почему они все смеются?

«an era of lush» идет дальше и вскрывает то, что находилось где-то глубоко внутри музыки ранних серий телешоу. Музыка, основанная на измененных сэмплах из «Ералаша», вызывает дискомфорт, она утомительно повторяющаяся. Она не страшная, но тревожная. В основном лупе можно усмотреть метафору навязчивой мысли — мысли о потере, недоверии и сомнении (но помните, что это всегда мысль о вас самих, а не ком-то другом). Другие звуки пытаются увести слушателя куда-то еще, но альбом на самом деле стоит на месте (поэтому его разделение на «Movements», то есть «движения», кажется весьма ироничным). Концовка лишь замыкает круг.

То есть, выхода нет? Не стоит быть слишком пессимистичным. Всегда есть надежда. То, что было сложным в начале, будет все легче ближе к концу. Самые чистые помыслы идут рука об руку с грязными.
